1984 saw the publication of some excellent novels. We had offerings from Douglas Adams, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish. Pick of the bunch was J. G. Ballard’s, Empire of the Sun, his story about life in a Japanese internment camp in WW2. Iain banks gave us The Wasp Factory and the Booker Prize was won by Anita Brookner’s novel Hotel du Lac. Finally, we were treated to Mary Wesley’s novel The Camomile Lawn.
