1982 Number 2 Hits

Here is 1982’s list of those songs which, great though they were, couldn’t quite make it to number 1 in the UK singles chart. The power of Eurovision asserted itself as this year’s winner Nicole (no, not THAT Nicole – she was French, this one’s German) rose to the top of the UK Singles Chart, preventing Yazoo’s original version of Only You from taking its rightful place. Of course, the Flying Pickets awesome acapella version did make Number 1 the following year. One or two of the others could be argued as travesties, step forward Renee & Renato… well OK only the one this year.  Mmm…
