Having bought both of the previous singles, I was hot on the heels of this one too. Of course, written by Mark James, the song is known as one of Elvis’s standards, but I do think that this one is a pretty good version.
Not afraid to make it their own, Jimmy Somerville’s falsetto backing vocals tip the track even further from Elvis’s baritone, whilst keeping faithful to the King’s version. Apologies if that is oxymoronic.
Anyway, like Johnny, this too made it to number 8 for the group in the UK singles chart. Released in January 1986, it quickly entered the chart and I bought it on 25 January on the weekend that it entered the top ten.
