Having finally managed to squeeze past Arsenal, Liverpool’s reward in the 5th Round of the League Cup was a trip to the Boleyn Ground, Upton Park.

Having won there in the league at the end of October, Liverpool must have gone into the game with some confidence.  They were faced however with the soon to be enfant terrible of the English game and a pair of classy stalwarts.  Paul Ince grabbed two goals, but it was perhaps the performances of Liam Brady and Alan Devonshire which really took the eye.

In the end, 4-1 to the Hammers didn’t flatter them in the least.
