Sunday 17 April 1988

One hundred years ago today, on 17 April 1888, in a hotel in Manchester the Football League was born.

And let’s not be too coy here, that’s what the punters though if it too as just 17,000 attended the finals day at Wembley.  Nottingham Forest won the tournament on penalties after a drab 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.
