You can view today’s FA Cup Final in a number of ways.  Here are two:

It was a) an upset for lovers of the beautiful game or b) a great example of the democratic nature of English Football.

The bald facts of the tie are that referee Brian Hill disallowed Peter Beardsley’s first half opener for Liverpool; the only goal was scored after 30 odd minutes of the first half by Lawrie Sanchez and in the second half Dave Beasant saved John Aldridge’s penalty kick.

All in all, and after all the guff spouted by both winners and losers, Wimbledon FC, who had only made their Football League debut ten seasons earlier, became the forty-second and latest new winners of the FA Cup.
